SIZE:8 X 10.5. A native of San Francisco, Ken Hodges has been an artist all his life, as his father was before him. Specializing in commercial art, he is equally skilled with oils, water colors, or acrylics. Ken is one of todays foremost practitioners of the art of portraying the universe of astronautics and aeronautics on canvas.
He possesses the unique ability to convey the intricacies of scientific concepts artistically to be appreciated by the layman as well as by the technologist. After World War II he served in the U.
Army Air Corps, Ken was selected by the United States Air Force to execute documentary art for the Air Force Academy Museum----an assignment which took him to Japan, Wake Island, Okinawa, the Philippines , Hong Kong, Thailand, Guam, and Greenland. Ken received two years of formal art school training at the Art Center School of Design and the Chouinard Art Institute, then worked for eight years for a series of art studios in Los Angeles. The next eighteen years saw Kens establishment in aerospace illustration though his work as a artist of North American Aviation (now Rockwell International). Ken went out on his own in 1974 and now works in his studio in Los Alamitos, Califorina. Considered one of Californias most versatile illustrators, Ken has been recognized and awarded by his peers from the prestigious Los Angeles Art Directors Club and the equally prestigious Society of Illustrators.Other awards and recognition have been given by a wide variety of organizations, including NASA (the National Aeronautics and Space Administration), the Smithsonian Institute, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art , Technical Illustrators Management Association Society for Technical Communications, and others. He is an Artist Fellow Member of the American Society of Aviation Artists. He has executed artistic commission all over the world for major corporations. His versatility from such diverse subject material as cutaway illustrations of medical technology and jet engines to landscapes of breathtaking Yosemite. Ken to design the first hologram stamps used by the government. Eisenhower Commemorative Stamp; and his latest, the Columbia River Gorge Postcard. Ken is married and lives in Los Alamitos, In addition to painting , his hobbies include trout fishing and sailboat racing.
