The artist's title for this work is Jack and the Beanstalk. The work is an ink drawing on thin cardboard that dates most likely from the early 1940s to late 1950s. The size of the image measures 6 inches high by 8 inches across and the total cardboard size comes to 14 inches by 11 inches. The drawing is signed by the artist in the lower left corner and titled and signed again on the back.
The work is in good condition. Grace Spongberg is listed in the published books Davenports Art Reference and Price Guide, The Illinois State Art Museum's book After the Great Crash New Deal (WPA) Art in Illinois published in 1983, and Who Was Who in American Art. She worked as a WPA mural artist here in District 10 Region in the late 1930s and early 1940s. She was a painter mainly working in watercolor and a print maker in Serigraph and Etching.
