Large antique pen and ink illustration by Herb Roth circa 1917. Scene depicted is a comical St. Patrick's Day parade down the streets of Laredo, Texas. Sheriff mounted on horse with ten gallon hat and waiving Irish/Mexican hybrid flag is the grand marshal.
Behind him is a horse drawn carriage and several men in charro suits wielding pistols and shotguns. An assortment of characters in early 20th century western attire flank the streets to enjoy the spectacle.
I don't know if this illustration was ever published. Hallmarks: Signed in lower right "Herb Roth" and inscribed in pencil St Patrick's Day - Loredo [sic] - 1917. Dimensions: Height 11" x Width 23 1/4" x Depth 3/8.
Image Size: Height 10" x Width 22 1/4". Condition: Very good antique condition. Discoloration and aging to paper. Roth made corrections to drawing with white paint or correction fluid. Piece was probably framed in late 1910s or early 1920s.
